Sate Kajang Haji Samuri, Damansara Uptown
Delicious phallic symbols of glory.
There's a certain rawness of manner in using one's teeth to pull out the pieces of skewered meat on a stick. Almost primitive. The warm meat mixed with the crushed peanut sauce is harmonious.
Human beings have short memories. News today, garbage tomorrow. The case against the popular Kajang satay company on the discharge of toxic effluents is long forgotten. What price for delicious satay?
Sate Kajang Haji Samuri used to be available only in Kajang, but the success story has been replicated all over the Klang valley and beyond. Closer to home, for me at least, is the restaurant at Damansara Uptown. Same satay in an attractive setting. Wear your heels and your finery if you like, but remember that all decorum fizzles when you use your fingers and teeth to remove the deliciously grilled meat.
The price is reasonable too. 60 sen (less than USD$0.20) per stick of chicken, beef, beef tripe, chicken liver and fish satay, while mutton, rabbit and venison satay ranges between 90 sen (USD$0.25) and RM1.60 (USD$0.50) per stick. Nasi impit (compressed rice), sliced cucumbers and sliced onions are essential side dishes.
The thick and delicious peanut sauce is served separately from the sambal. Add the sambal at your own risk. It is potent, but guaranteed to make you break into a heated sweat.

Wah! your first picture look like wanting to "cucuk" me. hehehehe It also make look so small. hehehe Wah! it just behind my back door, so nearby.
Hey, was there on Sunday night!haha....will post about it too. I enjoyed the satay, seems good or was it because I've not been there for some time now?
That contributed to a particularly sharp gurgle in my gut since I grew up with the stuff and I haven't had that scrap of burnt bit from the charcoal flame for a looong time! interesting since not very long ago, I had a curious compulsion to google Kajang Satay, and that led me to all you food bloggers! Serendipity. :)
Been months since I've had satay. Need to think of a way out. :O
mmm...satay. so delicious. I tried making my own satay twice but never got it right leh. so sad.
aiyo, dekat rumah i pun tak panggil i ;p. prefer HS branch at KL and dengkil though, QC better. love the kuah satay, can finish 1 big bowl by myself :)
v disagree on yr sensory visuals of that overblack here n there patches of
( errr...glory ) but can agree to your fully loaded mouthfull of satisfied satisfaction ...
its h u g e ! close n personal by golly
I like the chunky meat element of Hj Samuri's sate but I find the peanut gravy a bit too sweet. It's still quite good value though since the sate's usually all lean meat.
Now that you mentioned it, the first pic looks kinda rude :-).
bugger the pictures looks damn good.. im surprised to see that you can blog eventhough you are at office until 10ish..respect
jackson: peanut sauce is nice, but I sometimes like to eat my satay plain. :-P weird, hor?
big boys oven: LOL! You're so farny la! :-P
wmw: the satay's above average. more lean meat, so good. looking forward to seeing your post!
msiagirl: I forgot about your Kajang connection haha. I should have dedicated this post to you. :-) Like you, I love that burnt bits too. Bad for health, but hey, you only live once!
tigerfish: you poor dear. With your immense talent in cooking, I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out!
the cooking ninja: sorry to hear that. hope u figure out the recipe soon.
wow.... don't really remember when was da last time i had satay... most probably few years ago! wouldn't mind to try this place... do they serve other food besides satay?
Loves satay. Needs to eats mores. Yums.
Strange that I just recently left a comment on another flogger's post about this place. Klang Valley is a small place, huh? Everyone eats at the same places? The good ones anyway...
Such a variety of satay! when I used to live in Klang all we had was chicken or beef! And your photos are making me hungry!
sc: sorry lo...was there with a whole bunch of mad colleagues. nanti u get culture shock! Wah, u really like your kuah satay hor?
team bsg: not realistic, meh? Hmmm. Guess u shud know better than me. :-P
pink elle: I like the chunky bits too. Oh, the sauce is sweet meh? I think i have a higher tolerance towards sweet things. hehe.
What unexpected photo angle u take. Obscene 1st pic. Or isit just my angle of sight? =P
Always wanted to try the famous kajang satay... not i can head to damansara lah. thanks for the post!
I took my cousins here and they loved this place so much. This particular outlet seems better than the KL ones - the one at Mara building is dry while the ones in Kajang sometimes are not cooked properly.
paprika: hehe. it was intentional. :-P
joe: not that difficult. just sleep less. :-P
meiyen: yes, they do serve other food too. I remember eating nasi paprik there. I suppose they have the usual dishes as well.
kenny: Klang valley is a kampung. Everybody knows everybody. Kinda like Cheers. Except on a larger scale. Much larger scale.
wokandspoon: hey, i used to live in Klang too. :-) Yeah, there are a lot more varieties of satay nowadays. What will they think of next!
tummythoz: haha. angles make a difference. :-P
teckiee: yeah...closer to home, eh?
boo: you're right, the satay here is better than some places. I remember eating in Kajang once, and it was still a little bloody. Bleah.
Meat on a stick...
to all the cuties and food lovers, in order to honour your sweat and blood blogging the best food in Malaysia (especially Klang Valley), i hv created a special search engine in google - check it out @ http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=014338890134914387703%3Acojimz7sfrq
Really, no spamming, adware and those yada yada illegal stuff, it is only illegal to your tummy
Lol on Unkaleong's comment ^^
I sometimes like my satay plain too, especially the first stick.
malaysian satay is really very delicious. but i kinda likey the Restoran Malaysia more....hehe.
The standard of satay in Kajang has seriously deteriorated. I found one good satay stall in Taman Suntex 9th mile Cheras which is about 10-15 mins away from Kajang. Satay over there was good..Maybe I'll go visit them some time and blog about it.
hmm...actually kajang is my hometown :) Normally i wld rekomen restaurant malaysia in kajang, featured by honeystar recently. The best satay in kajang.
hey call me whenever ur around uptown area..we stayed some where there
The sambal although is hot..is really cool.. you know what I mean.. :)
unkaleong: LOL. That's another way of putting it, I guess.
blastmeister: thanks..will check it out. :-)
jason: ^5!
k.t.x: Restoran Malaysia too far away, dude. :-P
sugar & spice: Ooh, do blog about it soon!
xiulongbao: hey, bald eagle's from Kajang too. :-) Yeah, Restoran Malaysia's satay is pretty good, but I remember it being a long wait the last time I went there.
kampungboycitygal: will do! now u're in the same neighbourhood as a number of food bloggers. :-)
cjcm: hehe...definitely!
I loved this satay, especially the perut. ;-) Was there with Cel. Took pics but of course haven't updated yet. Sigh!
Nigel: Take your time dear. Better late than never. :-)
this is definitely my family's favourite satay place.. especially since its so near to my office and only 10min drive from home!
not only is the satay seriously addictive, their variety of noodles and fried rice are not too bad either.. many times my uninitiated friends enjoy it while i gorge on all sorts of satay
