Sunday Breakfast for One

nasi lemak
The Bald Eagle left last night for Athens to pay homage to his favourite football team, Liverpool FC, as they meet AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League finals on May 23 (May 24 in KL).

So Sunday breakfast turned out to be a lonely one. I was in Bangsar this morning, and came across a tiny stall (it's more of a table, really), at the junction of Jalan Telawi and Telawi 4, with packets of nasi lemak piled high.

nasi lemak
A packet, wrapped first in banana leaf, then in brown paper, contains rice cooked in coconut milk, fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, a quarter of a hard-boiled egg and yummy sambal which has the right balance of chilli and sweetness. All for RM1 (that's approximately US$0.25!).

My husband is half way across the globe to his destination right now, but I bet the food on his flight doesn't taste half as good as my humble nasi lemak.

US$0.25!

You are right - humble nasi lemak is still better than coach class plane food.

whisky: I guess someone figured out that they could make more money selling nasi lemak in Bangsar. I stood by and saw so many cars stopping and tar-pau'ing several packets of nasi lemak each.

lee ping: so cheap hor. If I recall correctly, this is one of your favourite foods, isn't it?

k.t.x: I'm sorry man, but this is the end of the road for us. It was good knowing you. :-P

Awww, that definitely beats any inflight food on the plane. Strange but I never knew Taman Segar had packet nasi lemak. Usually the ones I see are from the TTDI fellas.

At least you're out enjoying yourself and not working away in the office! Thank goodness! Unless you are going to tell me that you did after that?

Yes, nasi lemak is my all time comfort food. I could eat that every day. I will make that for dinner tonight!

I love this little packets of nasi lemak. They are just the right size, it leaves me wanting more and makes me feel like I just ate a low-fat, light breakfast!! Delusional! :-)

boo: I guess everyone's jumping on the bandwagon!

wmw: the world map that u see under my nasi lemak packet is in my office. :-P

jackson: kopi O with nasi lemak bungkus sounds perfect!

lee ping: hehe...got cravings already huh?

sc: yeah, it's familiar comfort food, isn't it?

paprika: I know! I kid myself into thinking it's not fattening because of it's size, but I guess deep down we all know better. haha.

Although his inflight meal cannot compete with your packet of nasi lemak, am sure he was very contented with the nasi dagang you got him before he left on Sat. :)

Should not intro your Bald Eagle to my Hubby (he is also a football fan), sekali my Hubby go with Bald Eagle and leave us behind. Hahaha. I don't like when he go somewhere without me.

I want! Somemore so cheap! Think I buy the banana leaves here in the US already more than US$0.25 :O
One pack like this can never be enough for me. Two packs just nice :D

Wow! Your husband is a true-blue football fan to go the distance...literally! But that nasi lemak looks really good, reminds me of my Sunday breakfasts :)

precious pea: actually, I tar-pau'd nasi kunyit for him from Village Park. He loved it. Next time he wants to come along. hehe. I think it's a good idea to introduce Bald Eagle to ur hubby. Then we have more time to go out for makan together. heehee.

jason: yeah, these packets are pretty small. Most guys I know take two packets.

joe: I managed to convince Bald Eagle to come with me to Ninja Jones. Dunno whether he can tahan or not coz he will be touching down on the same day.

tigerfish: lol! I guess you can grow ur own banana tree then! I suppose the climate where u live is quite suitable?

pink elle: The Bald Eagle is a true blue fan....he practically stalks the team...from Istanbul to Japan and now to Athens. lol. As Jackson said earlier, nasi lemak with a nice kopi O is good, especially on a lazy sunday morning. :-)

maybe you should strike a new deal with your hubby:

everytime he goes oversea for football match, he must budget an equal amont of $$$ for you to go out and eat nice things (which means more nicer meals in pricey settings)

xiu long bao: aah, that's a great combination too! or at least, it feels a little healthier. lol.

henry: hehehe. That would translate to a lot of money. I could even invest in a restaurant with that kinda cash. hoho.

wmw: looks like a fun tag. will do it soon!

mama bok and firehorse: It's simple things like these that we sometimes take for granted when we live here. I hope you guys get your nasi lemak soon.

precious pea: I don't mind. Then we can talk about Andrew Kim and they wouldn't even hear us.

tankiasu: I have to echo what I said to k.t.x. It was good knowing you dude. *walking into the sunset* :-P
